Sydney’s Children’s Portrait Photographers

With a team of photographers that could be likened to a bunch of big kids, you’ll find that capturing the real personality of your little ones is very easy with the Israel Smith Photographers team! We’ve got loads of experience at capturing children simply being themselves – being kids – and making the process fun, enjoyable, and rewarding with resulting portrait photographs that you will enjoy and treasure for years to come.

We Love Working With Children And Animals

The old saying “never work with children and animals” was clearly made up by someone who either wasn’t a parent, or had no heart! We LOVE working with children and animals – often in the same shoot – because it gives us a chance to revisit the innocence, beauty, excitement and unbridled joy we each remember from our own childhoods. It’s also a great excuse to play, muck-up, and generally have a ball as we capture the unique flavour of your child or children.

Children’s Portrait Photographers Work Fast

Our experience has shown us that some children are a little shy to begin with, while others arrive fuelled-up and raring to go – but in any case we sometimes only get a window of 10-20 minutes where the kids are at their best and most co-operative. Our team photographers have been trained to work really quickly to take advantage of the best light, background and fun moments while they last!

The Professional Children’s Photographer

Our clients often comment about how they have never been able to capture children’s portraits like us – the children have always moved on by the time the camera takes the photograph! Our photography equipment is of the highest professional standard, meaning we don’t suffer from that frustrating pause while the camera thinks about taking the photograph. Our training also means we are ready to capture the stunning moments as they happen, often before you’ve realised we’re taking the photograph!

Get Out Of The House For Children’s Portraits

We always prefer to take our children’s portrait photography somewhere in Sydney’s beautiful outdoors. Fresh air and open space gives everyone an environment to simply be themselves, without the typically contrived nature of an indoor photography studio with four walls, a backdrop and lighting equipment. By going outdoors, we achieve much more relaxed portrait photographs of you and your children, and each time we go outside we capture something unique and different – just like our subjects, your children!

Clothing, Bribes, Refreshments and Props

Children’s portraits have a few important considerations to be as successful as possible. Our subjects are children after all, and they often require a little enticement (‘bribes’) to get their utmost co-operation. Make sure you bring some of their favourite treats to keep the little ones (and the big ones) happy during the shoot! Also, we suggest drinks and snacks as refreshments to give the kids a recharge during their portraits if they get a little tired or ragged from running around. Bring any props or toys that are relevant to their personality or favourite activities at this time in their life (e.g. favourite teddy, football/soccer ball, scooter, etc). Lastly, clothing should be as simple as possible without any big prints/logos/patterns to ensure we can focus solely on your child’s expression and not be distracted by any brand names or clashing logos. Colours are best kept muted and pastel shades, although some brighter colours can work. Bring spare changes of clothes if you’re unsure.

Childhood Is Fun – So Are Children’s Portraits

We’re not a very formal studio when we work with children – the best kids photographers (our team!) are relaxed, fun, and easygoing. Nothing destroys the mood quicker than a grumpy photographer, which is why we are often laughing and encouraging your kids to be themselves. We find that a fun approach to the process gives the kids the freedom to express themselves and show us all the personality traits that you love about them so much. As a result, we don’t want to have everyone looking at the camera all the time. Some of our most beautiful images have no-one looking at the camera at all, but still communicate the true essence of the subject.

Your Favourite Children’s Portrait Photographer

We want to help you remember each and every stage of your children’s growth and development, and that’s why we love being children’s photographers. Call us and tell us about your children, and we can work with you to capture their little personalities at whatever stage of childhood they are at.
